Cold wave conditions persisted across Jammu and Kashmir for the third consecutive week since November 6, with night-time temperatures in the Valley hovering several degrees below the freezing point, officials said.
According to the MeT office in Srinagar, the minimum temperature in the summer capital settled at minus 4.4 degrees Celsius on Saturday night, aided by dense fog and a cold breeze.
“The summer capital Srinagar recorded a minimum of minus 4.4 degrees Celsius on Saturday,” MeT dept stated.
The prevailing conditions are likely to persist until December 3, the department added, saying a brief spell of rain and snowfall may also occur across from December 3 onward.
A majority of hill stations in Kashmir have already received early snowfall, triggering a sharp dip in minimum temperatures.

Meanwhile, Jammu division’s Katra district remained warm at 9.0 degrees C, while Nyoma in Ladakh remained the coldest place in the region at minus 16.3 degrees, as recorded on Saturday night.
While day temperatures have remained relatively moderate across Jammu and Kashmir, night temperatures have plummeted several degrees below freezing point across most weather stations in the Valley.
In central Kashmir, temperature fell several degrees in Budgam and Ganderbal, recording a sharp decline in recent weeks.
In South Kashmir’s Shopian, Pulwama, Kulgam, and Anantnag, there was a sharp dip in minimum temperatures also, ranging from minus 6 degrees C to minus 6.6 degrees C.
Qazigund, known as the ‘gateway to Kashmir’, also recorded minus 4.3 degrees, while several other weather stations across north Kashmir, including Baramulla, Bandipora, and Kupwara, witnessed chilly night temperatures.
In the Jammu division, weather remained relatively moderate, with Jammu city recording 8.8 degrees Celsius, while Banihal, Kishtwar, Bhaderwah, and Batote also experienced slightly milder weather conditions.
