Srinagar is gearing up to host its inaugural Formula-4 car race on Sunday. Officials announced that renowned Formula drivers will captivate fans as they race from Lalit Ghat to Nehru Park along a 1.7-kilometre route, promising an exhilarating spectacle on Boulevard Road from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
In a significant move to promote sports in the valley, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, chaired a meeting today to ensure the smooth execution of the event. With Kashmir renowned for its picturesque landscape, snow-clad mountains, gardens, and lakes, hosting such events is expected to boost tourism, marking a significant sporting milestone post the abrogation of Article 370.
Addressing the conference, Bidhuri expressed enthusiasm, stating that this groundbreaking event will attract young people and instil a passion for Formula-4 sports. He highlighted the significance of holding the auto race in Srinagar, broadening the scope of sporting alternatives for Kashmiri enthusiasts and paving the way for new career opportunities.
Describing the adrenaline-pumping race as thrilling and captivating, Bidhuri emphasised its potential to elevate Kashmir's adventure tourism. Ensuring meticulous arrangements, he instructed authorities to level the roads and repair potholes along the route. Safety measures were prioritised, including the construction of C-type 2-tier barriers and the deployment of medical teams and fire extinguishers.
Bidhuri also emphasised the need for adequate security measures and other event management requirements, such as drone permissions. The meeting was attended by various officials including VC, LCMA; Director of Tourism; Joint Commissioner of SMC; officers from PWD, Health Department, Traffic, Police, Fire & Emergency, and representatives of Racing Promotions Private Ltd.
