The Union Ministry of Railways has approved a stop for the Amb–Delhi Vande Bharat Express at Nangal Dam railway station in Punjab. The decision fulfils a long-pending demand of residents from the region.
The approval was communicated by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in a letter sent to BJP state vice-president Subhash Sharma.
In the letter, the Railway Minister said the Railways had accepted Sharma's request for a scheduled halt of the Vande Bharat Express at Nangal Dam station.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Sharma welcomed the decision and thanked Vaishnaw for approving the long-standing demand. He described the move as a major boost for the region.
Sharma said people from Nangal and nearby areas had been demanding the halt for several years. They had repeatedly urged the Railways to improve rail connectivity with Delhi through the Vande Bharat Express.
He said Nangal Dam railway station is used by thousands of passengers, including employees, students, traders, pilgrims and tourists from the Nangal-Anandpur Sahib region and nearby parts of Himachal Pradesh.
According to Sharma, the new halt will make travel easier for daily commuters and improve connectivity for business, tourism and religious travel. He added that the decision will provide residents with faster and more convenient rail connectivity to Delhi. The Amb–Delhi Vande Bharat Express has become one of the quickest rail services connecting Himachal Pradesh with the national capital.
Sharma said the Railways is expected to announce the date from which the halt will begin, along with the revised timetable, in the coming days.
