The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) demanded an apology from Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday over his controversial remark comparing a mathadheesh (head of a math) to a mafia.
At a press conference on Thursday, Yadav had stated, "There is not much difference between a mathadheesh and mafia." This comment was made in response to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's accusation that Yadav was identifying the caste of criminals.
VHP joint general secretary Surendra Jain condemned Yadav's statement as “highly condemnable and objectionable” and called for an apology. Jain accused Yadav of repeatedly insulting Hindu beliefs and saints to court votes, alleging that the more he insults the Hindu community, the more he appeases his vote bank.
Jain also criticised the INDIA bloc for its silence on Yadav’s remark, suggesting that there is a deliberate conspiracy to insult the Sanatan Hindu society. He warned that if Yadav and his alliance do not apologise to the Hindu community and revered saints, the community will respond through democratic means.
