Senior Akali Dal leader and former Punjab cabinet minister Bikramjit Singh Majithia was taken into custody early Wednesday morning by the Vigilance Bureau during a series of coordinated raids across 25 locations in Punjab, including his residences in Amritsar and Sector-4, Chandigarh.
Ganieve Kaur Majithia, SAD MLA and wife of Bikram Majithia, alleged that “Around 30 people barged into the house. No media was allowed to enter the house after the raid.”
The action follows the registration of a fresh disproportionate assets case against Majithia. The new FIR has emerged from findings revealed during the ongoing investigation into the 2021 drug-trafficking case registered against the former cabinet minister. Officials from the Vigilance Bureau stated that a review of financial documents and transactions linked to Majithia revealed serious discrepancies, prompting action under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Reacting strongly to the raids, Majithia accused Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann of political vendetta. He said the AAP government is targeting him simply because he has been vocal in exposing its flawed policies.
Majithia on his X handle shared, "The raid on my house shows the arrogance of Bhagwant Mann and Arvind Kejriwal. This morning, the Vigilance team forcefully entered my home. The press was not allowed to enter, and even the lawyers were also assaulted. The Aam Aadmi Party government is openly violating the law. Bhagwant Mann ji, your threats cannot silence me. I will always raise my voice for Punjab and Punjabis."
In another post, he said, "I had said it earlier that when the Bhagwant Mann government couldn’t find anything in the false drug case against me, it would try to register another false case against me. And that’s exactly what happened today. The Vigilance team, led by the SSP, raided my premises. Bhagwant Mann ji, no matter how many pamphlets you distribute, I will neither be afraid nor silenced. I have always raised the issues of Punjab and will continue to do so. I have full faith in Akal Purakh and Guru Sahib. In the end, truth will prevail."
