Tension flared at the 1008-Kundiya Mahayajna in Kurukshetra, Haryana, when security guards allegedly opened fire on Brahmins attending the religious event. The incident occurred around 9:30 am on Saturday, resulting in one Brahmin sustaining a gunshot wound while another was injured due to stone pelting.

The situation quickly spiraled out of control as angered attendees clashed with private security personnel hired by the event organizers. In the ensuing chaos, around 20 to 21 Brahmins were injured, leading to a large-scale protest marked by vandalism and road blockades.

Eyewitnesses reported that the violence stemmed from an ongoing dispute over the quality of food being served. According to Ashish Tiwari, an injured attendee from Lucknow, stale food had been repeatedly served over the past few days, causing frustration among the participants.

The issue came to a head when Brahmins went for breakfast and found the food to be spoiled. Tiwari alleged that when they voiced their protest, security guards not only abused them but also resorted to physical violence.

He further claimed that the guards, who had been falsely presented as government personnel, began attacking them with sticks and bricks.

The situation escalated rapidly when security guards allegedly fired shots at the attendees. Enraged by the violence, a large crowd of Brahmins stormed out of the yajna premises, broke down the main gate, and vandalised banners and hoardings along the road. The protestors then moved to the Kurukshetra-Kaithal highway, blocking traffic and forcibly stopping vehicles.

As the unrest grew, Kurukshetra police intervened to control the situation. Authorities attempted to pacify the demonstrators, but when they refused to disperse, a mild lathi-charge was used to clear the blockade. Security in the area has since been increased to prevent further escalation.

The yajna’s chief organiser, Acharya Swami Shubh, dismissed the violence as the work of external miscreants and assured that an internal probe was underway. He questioned why the organisers would disrupt their own religious event and stated that strict action would be taken against those responsible.

Meanwhile, a Kurukshetra police spokesperson confirmed that two individuals had been injured—one by gunfire and another due to stone pelting.

Authorities have identified the security guard responsible for the firing and are taking appropriate legal action. The police emphasised that while force was used to disperse the protestors, it was minimal and aimed at restoring order without unnecessary aggression.
