Police investigate the scene after a violent clash at PU Chandigarh during Haryanvi singer Masoom Sharma’s concert, leaving one student dead and four injured.

A violent clash broke out between two student groups during a live concert by Haryanvi singer Masoom Sharma at Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, resulting in the fatal stabbing of a student and injuries to four others.

The deceased, Aditya Thakur, was a second-year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) student at PU and a resident of Himachal Pradesh. Following the incident, the police registered a murder case at Sector 11 police station and launched an investigation.

According to initial reports, the altercation took place on Friday evening behind the stage while Masoom Sharma was performing. A scuffle between two rival student groups quickly escalated, leading to violence.

Amid the chaos, four students were stabbed before the attackers managed to flee the scene. Emergency responders transported the injured students to a hospital, where Aditya Thakur succumbed to his injuries.

Masoom Sharma’s concert had drawn a large crowd, with students and other attendees arriving early to secure their spots. The singer reached the university around 6 pm and began his performance as planned.

However, the loud music and crowd excitement drowned out the commotion happening behind the stage. It was only when Aditya Thakur collapsed that bystanders realised the severity of the situation and raised the alarm.

Following the attack, police officials and university security personnel rushed to the scene. Despite strict security arrangements at PU’s entry gates and inside the venue, the violent brawl resulted in a fatality, raising concerns about campus safety.

Parvinder Singh Negi, president of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) at PU, strongly condemned the violence and criticised the security lapse. He stated that they would protest against the administration’s failure to prevent such an incident.

Haryanvi singer Masoom Sharma has recently been in the news due to the government’s decision to ban seven of his songs, which allegedly promote gun culture.
