The Blind Persons Association of Himachal Pradesh staged a protest outside the Secretariat on Monday, demanding that the state government clear the backlog in recruitment, officials said.
Hundreds of demonstrators gathered outside the Secretariat, raising slogans against the government. They warned that they would launch a “naked protest” if their demands were not met.
Association secretary Rajesh Thakur said they had been asking the government for a long time to fill the backlog in recruitment. He added that members of the association had been holding a protest near Kalibari in Shimla for more than 700 days.
“Whenever we protest outside the Secretariat or block roads, the government gives us assurances, but no concrete action has been taken so far,” Thakur said.
He added that despite several meetings and promises, the government had failed to act.
“Many posts reserved for the visually-impaired in various departments of the state government have been lying vacant for years, but the government is not recruiting people,” Thakur said.
