A Special Task Force from Karnal arrested a most-wanted criminal near Majri Chowk on the Zirakpur–Panchkula road on Tuesday. The accused has been identified as Rajinder, alias Jinda. He was carrying a reward of Rs 25,000 on his name.
Rajinder, a resident of Gondar village in Karnal district, was held with an illegal .32-bore country-made pistol and 10 live cartridges. When the STF team went to arrest him, he allegedly consumed a poisonous substance, after which his condition worsened and he was rushed to the Government Hospital in Panchkula.
After receiving treatment, Rajinder was handed over to the Panchkula police. He has been lodged at Police Station, Sector 7, Panchkula, for legal proceedings.
According to police, Rajinder had been absconding for the last nine months and continued to be involved in serious crimes during this period. He allegedly formed his own gang and was involved in crimes such as robbery, dacoity, murder and extortion.
According to police records, Rajinder has 19 criminal cases registered against him across Haryana, for offences including theft, robbery, murder and extortion. Several districts had announced rewards for his arrest.
The STF from Karnal was in Panchkula on Monday as part of a special drive against wanted criminals. Acting on specific inputs, the team arrested Rajinder while he was riding an Activa scooter near Majri Chowk.
A fresh case, FIR No. 10 dated January 20, 2026, has been registered against him at Police Station, Sector 7, Panchkula, under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act.
