The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), along with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), has successfully brought back wanted fugitive Sombir Motta from the United States.
Motta, who is wanted by Haryana Police in murder and firearms-related cases, was deported to India on Tuesday. He has since been taken into custody by the Haryana Police.
Earlier, on February 11, 2025, the CBI, acting on a request from Haryana Police, secured a Red Notice against Motta through INTERPOL. The agency then worked with the NCB office in Washington to trace him and arrange his deportation to India.
INTERPOL Red Notices are shared with law enforcement agencies worldwide to help track fugitives. As India’s National Central Bureau for INTERPOL, the CBI works with police agencies across the nation through BHARATPOL. In recent years, it has helped bring back over 150 wanted criminals to the country through global coordination.
In a similar case earlier in January, the CBI, in coordination with the MEA and MHA, facilitated the return of wanted fugitive Aman alias Aman Kumar alias Aman Bhainswal from the United States, officials said.
Aman was deported from the US and arrived in India on January 7. He was taken into custody by a Haryana Police team at the Delhi airport, officials confirmed.
As per the CBI, Aman is wanted in several serious criminal cases, including murder, rioting and criminal conspiracy. He is described as a key member of an organised crime syndicate linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
Officials said Aman was earlier arrested in India and later released on bail. He failed to appear for trial and went into hiding. Acting on Haryana Police’s request, the CBI later secured a Red Notice against him through INTERPOL.
