Weather conditions across Jammu and Kashmir improved on Tuesday following two days of intermittent rain in the plains and snowfall in the upper reaches.
According to the Meteorological Department in Srinagar, cloudy weather is likely to persist until March 20, before two more strong Western Disturbances affect the region’s weather system.
The recent wet spell, which began on Saturday, brought much-needed relief to the farming community in J&K, effectively ending a prolonged dry spell that lasted nearly two months.
While the plains received light to moderate rainfall, higher reaches experienced light to moderate snowfall over the two days. Some key mountain passes and areas, including Sinthan Top, Razdan Pass and the Zojila axis, recorded approximately 12 inches of fresh snow.
Authorities are actively working to restore inter-district road connectivity after snowfall caused disruptions in surface traffic in north, south and parts of central Kashmir. Traffic advisories have been issued urging travellers to exercise caution while driving on slippery roads.
On March 24 and 25, widespread rain and snowfall are expected across the Union Territory. The improved weather has lifted spirits among locals and farmers, though officials continue to monitor the forecast closely amid the region’s vulnerability to sudden weather shifts.
