Haryana-cadre IAS officer Amneet P Kumar, the wife of late IPS officer Y Puran Kumar.

Haryana-cadre IAS officer Amneet P Kumar, the wife of late IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, has filed a complaint with the Chandigarh Police. She has requested an FIR against DGP Shatrujeet Kapur and Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarniya under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. She alleges that they drove her husband to take his own life.

The deceased officer had also named several officers in his 8-page suicide note.

Puran Kumar, recently appointed as IGP at the Police Training Centre, Sunaria, Rohtak, allegedly shot himself at his Chandigarh residence in Sector 11. Amneet stated that her husband’s suicide note had demanded an FIR against the DGP and SP, along with their arrest.

“My husband, an officer of unimpeachable integrity and extraordinary public spirit, was found dead by a gunshot at our home. While official narratives suggest suicide, my soul cries for justice as a wife witnessing years of systematic humiliation, harassment and persecution inflicted upon my husband by senior officials, including Shatrujeet Kapur, DGP, Haryana,” Amneet said in the complaint.

She alleged that her husband faced caste-based discrimination. He had told her that a conspiracy was being hatched, under the DGP’s directions, to falsely implicate him.

She stated that a false FIR was filed at the Urban Estate police station in Rohtak on October 6. It was lodged against a staff member of her husband, Sushil, as part of a planned conspiracy. Amneet said this case was being used to push her husband towards suicide.

Amneet said her husband contacted Kapur about the case, but the matter was ignored. He also tried to reach the Rohtak SP, but did not get any response.

She added that her husband had repeatedly cited the SC and ST Act. He faced caste-based slurs, exclusion from worship areas on police premises, mental harassment, public humiliation, and other atrocities from senior officers.

Claiming her husband’s suicide was a result of ongoing persecution, Amneet demanded the arrest of Kapur and Bijarniya.
