Following a CBI raid at its Mohali office in a bribery case, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) said it will cooperate fully with the central agency if any official from the bureau is named in the investigation.
A spokesperson of the state Vigilance Bureau said a private individual has been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation, and the investigation in the matter is still underway.
The spokesperson added that if the name of any bureau official comes up during the probe, the department will extend full cooperation to the CBI and allow the law to take its course.
In a late-night raid at the Punjab Vigilance office in Mohali, the CBI reportedly apprehended a middleman who was allegedly facilitating a deal with a Punjab Vigilance Bureau official to settle a case at a hotel in the city, sources said. It is also reported that cash worth around Rs 13 lakh was recovered during the operation.
Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia criticised the Aam Aadmi Party government over the incident. He said corruption in Punjab is being exposed “layer by layer” and claimed that an alleged Rs 20 lakh bribery deal is under investigation, with the Central agency reportedly seized Rs 13 lakh during the raid.
Majithia further said “Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has no moral right to continue as both chief minister and home minister.”
