People's Conference (PC) president Sajad Gani Lone on Tuesday slammed the National Conference (NC) for allegedly warning that lawmakers voting for other parties than the NC in the upcoming Rajya Sabha (RS) elections would be considered traitors.
Lone asserted that he will never vote for the National Conference in the scheduled Rajya Sabha polls.
Recalling past political events, Lone alleged that the NC, especially Omar Abdullah, misled the people of Jammu and Kashmir in the 2024 elections.
He said, “We lost the elections, and our expectations were shattered. How many times must we be blamed for the same thing?”
Lone challenged the Chief Minister to prove that the denial of a Rajya Sabha seat to Congress was not influenced by the BJP. He accused the CM of collusion with the BJP ahead of the abrogation of Article 370 and accused the NC for backstabbing Congress.
Lone praised the Congress for being the only anti-BJP party, and said, “There is only one party that is truly anti-BJP, and that is Congress. The NC has collaborated with the BJP before, but Congress has never done so.”
On the issue of restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, Lone said only Congress could play a pivotal role since the BJP was unwilling.
He said Omar was damaging his party’s credibility by allegedly burning bridges of partnership with Congress after receiving their support in the 2024 elections.
“You must now prove you’re not with the BJP,” Lone argued, adding that recent actions of the NC only benefit the BJP.
The feud between the NC and its alliance partner Congress has intensified over the seat-sharing agreement for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections.
On Monday, the National Conference picked Imran Nabi Dar for the fourth seat, where the BJP holds a numerical advantage.
