Wipe out terrorism from J&K: Shah at security meet

The Union Home Minister directed the unified headquarters to act in complete synergy to ensure zero infiltration from across the border and zero tolerance for terrorists in the hinterland.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah assessed overall security, law and order situation in Srinagar today in which he asked the forces to maintain complete coordination to eliminate any infiltration threats from across the border. He also called for zero tolerance approach towards terrorism.

 

The Home Minister marked this as need while chairing the meeting on the security situation after reviewing the various developmental projects in the UT on Tuesday.  

 

During the high-level meeting of the Unified Headquarters (UHQ) at Raj Bhawan, the highest security grid in the Union Territory, these comments came as high point of instructions from the Union Home Minister.

 

The UHQ, which includes representatives from the army, paramilitary forces, police, and intelligence agencies, serves as the key decision-making body on security matters in the UT.  The meeting focused on the current security situation, law and order, and other related concerns.

 

The Union Home Minister directed the unified headquarters to act in complete synergy to ensure zero infiltration from across the border and zero tolerance for terrorists in the hinterland.

 

While expressing satisfaction at the operational efficiency of the forces, Amit Shah emphasised eradicating terrorism from J&K, with special mention of doing so in the Jammu division, where Kathua has emerged new flashpoint in terms of continuous infiltration followed by encounters in recent weeks.

 

“The Home Minister instructed the UHQ to work  in full coordination to ensure zero infiltration and maintain a zero-tolerance stance towards terrorism in the UT,” officials said.

 

Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, GoC Northern Command Lt. General Suchindra Kumar, deputy chief of Army staff, GoC 15 corps, GoC 16 corps, GoC 9 corps, Jammu and Kashmir chief secretary, J&K DGP, chiefs of paramilitary forces, including BSF and CRPF, among others attended the meeting.

 

Earlier, Shah held a high-level meeting to review the progress of various developmental projects, with the participation of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Chief Secretary Atul Dulloo, and other senior officials.  Before the UHQ meeting, Shah also had a one-on-one session with the Chief Minister, as confirmed by officials. The Home Minister also reviewed the preparedness for the coming summer months when Amarnath Yatra takes place and tourist influx increases in Kashmir.

 

He met several delegations before departing for New Delhi later in the evening.
