A 35-year-old woman was found dead near a rivulet close to the Pithoragarh airstrip on Monday, police officials said.
The deceased was identified as Vaishali Kharayat, a resident of Rewa district in Madhya Pradesh.
According to police, initial findings suggest that she may have died by suicide after receiving news of her husband's death due to a cardiac arrest in Madhya Pradesh, said Jajardewal police station in-charge Manoj Pandey.
Family members told police that Kharayat had recently come to Pithoragarh from Rewa to visit her parents, who live in the Kumaor Ward area of the town.
Police said she left her parents' home soon after learning about her husband's death. Local residents reportedly saw her leaving the house at around 10 am.
When she did not return, her family launched a search. Later, local women spotted her body in a water channel near the Pithoragarh airstrip and informed the authorities, police said.
Police have initiated legal formalities and further investigation into the case is underway.
