Woman killed in IED blast in Jharkhand, explosives recovered

Locals said that the woman went to Darkada forest near Vanagram Maradiri to collect wood when the pressure IED was triggered. After getting information Chaibasa Police with the help of the CRPF 214 Battalion retrieved the body of the woman from the site.

A 58-year-old woman today fell victim to Maoist violence as she lost her life in an IED blast triggered near Vanagram Maradiri in the Darkada forest under the jurisdiction of Goilkera police station in West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand. The woman, who died in the pressure bomb explosion, was identified as Randaya Purti, aged about 58 years.

 

Locals said that the woman went to Darkada forest near Vanagram Maradiri to collect wood when the pressure IED was triggered. After getting information Chaibasa Police with the help of the CRPF 214 Battalion retrieved the body of the woman from the site. The body of the deceased Randaya Purti was later sent to the Sub-Divisional Hospital in Chakradharpur for autopsy.

 

Despite continuous operations of security forces in the West Singhbhum area, Maoists have been involved in violent activities. Maoists are using improvised explosive devices including Pressure Cooker Modified Nitrate Mixture (PMNK) to kill security personnel.

 

In the operation conducted by security forces on February 15, two IEDs planted in the Lowabeda forest were recovered from Hathiburu of the Goilkera police station area. The security forces destroyed them with the help of the technical team.

 

A major campaign against Maoists has been started in the border areas of Kuida, Chhota Kuida, Maradiri, Meralgada, Hathiburu, Tilayabeda Boyapaisang, Katamba, Bayhatu, Boroy, Lemsadih of Goilkera police station area and Husipi, Rajabasa, Tumbahaka, Regada, Patatorb, Goburu, Luiya villages of Tonto police station area.

 

In the forest area of Vanagram Husipi, forces successfully recovered three IEDs planted by extremists for targeting security personnel. The IEDs were destroyed by the bomb disposal squad.
