After a video surfaced online showing a woman being brutally assaulted by locals, Haridwar Superintendent of Police Abhay Singh said on Sunday that a case has been registered and four individuals have been taken into custody for questioning.

 

Giving details of the incident, the SP said that the assault took place in the Ranipur police station area of Haridwar. The woman was tied to a pole and beaten by local residents, and a video of the incident later went viral on social media. The woman’s family has lodged a complaint at the Ranipur police station, following which police registered a case and began a probe.

 

Condemning the incident, the SP said such acts of violence against women are criminal and unacceptable. He added that strict action will be taken against all those found to be involved in the assault.

 

Earlier, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami attended the ‘From Self-Employment to Employment’ programme in Haridwar, where he inaugurated a Mushroom Village on Saturday.

 

Speaking at the programme, the Chief Minister said the Mushroom Village would play an important role in strengthening the state’s economy. He said that the MB Food Processing Plant at Buggawala, through the establishment of the Mushroom Village, has launched an innovative initiative that will help increase farmers’ income and boost economic growth.

 

CM Dhami also said the state government is making continuous efforts to double farmers’ income. He noted that over 13 crore farmers are receiving benefits under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme.

 

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is steadily moving towards becoming a developed nation, the Chief Minister said. He added that sustained efforts are being made to double farmers’ income and that over 11 crore farmers across the country are benefiting from the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme.

 

The Chief Minister further said that a bonus of Rs 20 per quintal is being given on wheat procurement and that 350 polyhouses have been set up in the state with government support.

 

He said that around Rs 115 crore has been provided to establish these polyhouses. The government is also working to increase the production of vegetables and fruits across Uttarakhand, he added.

 

Earlier, CM Dhami had inspected the Agniveer Recruitment Training Centre run by the Department of Youth Welfare, the Provincial Armed Constabulary, and the Sports Department at the PAC Directorate in Raipur, Dehradun. The state government is providing free training to youth preparing for Agniveer recruitment.

 

During the visit, Dhami reviewed physical training arrangements, running practice, sports facilities, and other basic amenities at the centre. He directed officials to ensure that trainees are provided with high-quality facilities.

 

He also instructed officials to regularly update training programmes and focus on strengthening the youth both physically and mentally with the help of expert trainers.

 

Calling the Agniveer scheme a major opportunity for the country’s youth, CM Dhami said the state government is committed to helping young people from Uttarakhand serve the nation and become self-reliant. He said providing proper facilities and guidance to youth remains a top priority for the government.
