Punjab Congress president and MP Amarinder Singh Raja Warring lashed out at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for summoning party candidate Bharat Bhushan Ashu amid the election campaign, calling it a sign of the ruling party’s "frustration and impending defeat."
Addressing a press conference in Ludhiana, Warring condemned the Vigilance Bureau's timing in issuing the summons, questioning the urgency behind it. “The AAP leadership, including Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann, has realised they are losing and is resorting to intimidation tactics,” Warring said. He added that such political vendetta will not be forgotten or forgiven.
Earlier, the Vigilance Bureau has summoned Congress candidate from Ludhiana West and and former Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu in a case on Friday.
According to sources, he has been summoned in case of a land of a government school. This development has come in the midst of by election for Ludhiana West which is scheduled to be held on June 19, 2025.
The Congress leader accused the state government of misusing investigative agencies to suppress the opposition. “Even earlier, false cases have been filed against our workers and councillors to scare them off. But Congress workers won’t be intimidated,” he asserted.
Issuing a stern warning to state officers allegedly acting under political pressure, Warring said a future Congress government would hold such officers accountable. “Their time is running out. We will neither forget nor forgive,” he stated, adding that a commission would be set up to review cases and dismiss officers involved in false FIRs.
Highlighting law and order concerns, Warring cited the recent custodial death of a youth in Bhucho Mandi, alleging that the case against the involved policemen was deliberately diluted. “This is unacceptable. The guilty must face strict punishment,” he demanded.
He also called for police reforms, claiming that at least 50 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), 35 Superintendents of Police (SPs), and other officers should be dismissed for their misconduct.
Former MLAs Jassi Khangura, Surinder Dawer, Kuldeep Vaid, Sanjay Talwar, Balwinder Bains, and Simarjit Bains were also present at the press conference.
