The sacred city of Ayodhya is set to welcome a new milestone in cultural tourism with the completion of the world’s first Ramayana-themed wax museum. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is scheduled to inaugurate the museum during the ninth edition of Deepotsav 2025, offering devotees and tourists an immersive journey into the epic of Ramayana.

Located on the Chaudah Kosi Parikrama route opposite Kashiram Colony, the museum spans 9,850 sq. ft. and has been constructed at a cost of Rs 6 crore. Fully air-conditioned, the two-storey facility houses 50 lifelike wax statues depicting key episodes and characters from the Ramayana, including Lord Ram, Mata Sita, Lakshman, Bharat, Hanuman, Ravana, and Vibhishan.

“The Ramayana museum in Ayodhya is truly unique. We have sculpted 50 characters from the epic with such fine detail that visitors will feel as if they have stepped into the Treta Yuga,” said Sunil, head of Kerala-based Sunil Wax Museum, which built the facility. The ground floor showcases scenes from Lord Ram’s childhood to Sita’s swayamvar, while the first floor brings to life the exile, Lanka Dahan, and the climactic Ram-Ravana war, enhanced with 3D lighting effects.

Visitors are welcomed by a grand idol of Lord Ganesha and can enjoy a selfie point next to child Ram’s statue. The museum integrates traditional fragrance, Ram bhajans, and the 'Ram Tarak Mantra' to recreate the spiritual aura of the Treta Yuga. Safety measures include CCTV surveillance, four emergency exits, a fire system, and 24X7 security. Entry has been fixed at Rs 100.

Municipal Commissioner Jayendra Kumar stated that 12 per cent of the museum’s revenue will directly support the Municipal Corporation, furthering the development of Ayodhya. Facilities around the museum include parking, a studio coffee house, snack zones, and an entertainment area, offering visitors a blend of North and South Indian cuisines.

The museum is expected to attract millions of devotees annually, complementing the tourism boom following the construction of the Ram Temple. “This museum stands as a shining symbol of devotion and cultural heritage,” said the Chief Minister’s office.
