Worm-infested rice served again for mid-day meals in government school - X.

Despite over 30 students falling ill due to food poisoning on Wednesday, the Zilla Parishad High School at Maganoor, reportedly, served worm-infested mid-day meal again to students on Thursday.

On Wednesday, students landed up in a hospital after having mid-day meals at their school in Telangana’s Narayanpet district.

Following Wednesday's incident, many students did not turn up for the school.

The agency’s contract has been cancelled and a new agency has been roped in to cook food for the students.

However, when food was served to students, they noticed worms in the rice. Immediately, the school teachers were alerted and they dumped the rice in the bin. A new bag of rice was arranged and lunch was served to the students.

Meanwhile, one more official has been suspended and three officers were issued show cause notices in connection with the incident.

While District Education Officer Abdul Ghani was suspended, show cause notices were issued to RDO Ramchander, MPDO Rahmatuddin and Food Inspector Neelima. Additional Collector Ben Shalom is conducting an enquiry into the incident.

Adding to the woes, reports suggest that students from this school, who were admitted to the government hospital following Wednesday’s food poisoning incident, were served worm-infested upma for breakfast at the hospital on Thursday morning.

Nearly 15 students were served upma, khichdi and other dishes for breakfast in the hospital.

However, while consuming the food, the students noticed worms in the khichdi and upma. They informed the nurses on duty and contaminated food was thrown.
