The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for 17 districts in Punjab, warning of dense fog and poor visibility on Sunday morning. Rain is also expected in the coming days due to two weather systems affecting the region.
The affected districts include Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Moga, Bathinda, Ludhiana, Barnala, Mansa, Sangrur, Patiala, and Malerkotla. Visibility in these areas could drop to as low as 50 meters, posing risks for travel.
A cold wave warning has been issued for Ferozepur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Moga, Bathinda, Barnala, and Mansa, with temperatures expected to stay below normal.
Two western disturbances are causing these weather changes. The first is near the Iran border, while the second is a system extending from Gujarat to the Punjab-Rajasthan border.
Rain is likely from January 21 to January 23. Scattered showers are expected on January 21, widespread rain on January 22, and isolated rainfall on January 23.
