Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday unveiled a statue of Rani Durgavati, the Gondwana queen regent known for her resistance against the Mughal empire, at a government medical college named in her honour, officials said.
The statue, located at the main gate of the medical college in Banda, commemorates the medieval-era queen’s legacy.
Speaking at the event, Adityanath described Rani Durgavati as a legendary warrior who sacrificed her life in defence of the motherland, calling the statue a symbol of her bravery and a lasting inspiration for future generations.
During his visit, the chief minister met with BJP leaders and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to accelerating development projects in Banda.
He announced plans to visit the district again soon to inaugurate several new initiatives and instructed officials to ensure that all ongoing projects were completed on time and to the highest standards.
Adityanath also visited Mahua village to pay his respects at the ancestral home of Chandrashekhar, the BJP’s general secretary in Telangana.
He offered condolences following the recent death of Chandrashekhar’s mother and prayed for the departed soul.
