The Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, held a special Cabinet meeting in Prayagraj on Wednesday. Following the meeting, the Chief Minister and his entire Cabinet will join the Mahakumbh festivities alongside devotees.
According to an official release, all 54 ministers of the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet were invited to the meeting, which was expected to approve several significant proposals and schemes for the state.
"To create sustainable development for Prayagraj and the surrounding areas, we will develop a development region... For its infrastructure, an extension of the Ganga Expressway will be provided. The Ganga Expressway will connect Prayagraj to Mirzapur, Bhadohi, Kashi, Chandauli, and will link to the Purvanchal Expressway in Ghazipur," Yogi said.
Initially planned to be held at the Mela Authority Auditorium, the venue was shifted to the Triveni Sankul in Arail to avoid inconvenience to pilgrims visiting the Sangam due to VIP security. The meeting is scheduled to start at noon.
After the meeting, Yogi Adityanath and the entire Cabinet took a holy dip in the sacred waters of the Triveni Sangam. The ministers will travel from the Arail VIP Ghat to the Sangam by motorboats. At the Sangam, Yogi and the Cabinet members will perform worship rituals and take the holy dip.
This will be the second time Yogi has led his Cabinet to the Sangam. In 2019, during the Kumbh Mela, he took a ceremonial dip along with his ministers, Akhada Parishad President Narendra Giri, and other saints.
PM Modi likely to visit Mahakumbh on 5 February
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit the Mahakumbh on 5 February, where he is likely to take a holy dip in the Ganga, perform aarti, and offer prayers. Later, he may visit Akshayvat, Saraswati Koop, and the Bade Hanuman Mandir to offer his prayers.
During his visit, Modi is also expected to honour the workforce responsible for making the Mahakumbh divine and grand.
Official sources claimed that approval had been received from the PMO, but the minute-to-minute protocol had yet to be received.
The Mahakumbh's last Amrit Snan, during Basant Panchami, will take place on 3 February, after which the Naga sadhus from all 13 Akhadas will leave the tent city.
