Punjabi film actor Yograj Singh, father of cricketer Yuvraj Singh, has once again landed in controversy over alleged objectionable remarks made in a web series. The Punjab State Women’s Commission has taken serious note of the matter.
Commission Chairperson Raj Lali Gill said the remarks made by Yograj Singh towards a woman character in the series were highly insulting. She said the commission has decided that an FIR will be registered against the actor. She also said that insulting women for monetary gain is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
Meanwhile, Chandigarh-based advocate Ujjwal Bhasin has filed a complaint with the Chandigarh Police and the Punjab State Women’s Commission in Mohali, seeking strict legal action against Yograj Singh.
Another lawyer from Patiala has reportedly also initiated legal action by sending a notice to Yograj Singh. He has also demanded action against the producer and director of the web series.
The lawyer has also approached the National Commission for Women in the matter and demanded registration of a case against all those involved in the production of the content. The complaint states that the alleged remark appears in a viral clip of the series, which features a woman portraying a female police officer.
The complainant has also named the actor playing the role of the police officer as Gurbani Kaur. He said such roles are usually treated with respect and dignity, but the remarks in question were inappropriate.
A criminal complaint has also been filed with the SSP Chandigarh against Yograj Singh, seeking immediate registration of an FIR. The complaint also seeks action against those involved in producing, directing, and circulating the content, alleging that the remarks are derogatory towards women.
