A young farmer was brutally shot dead in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena district on late Friday night, triggering outrage among locals. The attack, carried out by a notorious criminal and his associates, led to widespread protests and a blockade of the National Highway.

The victim has been identified as Dhruv Yadav, a local farmer. According to reports, he was in Silayatha village in Morena district when he was ambushed by a well-known criminal, Shyam Gogai, along with his unidentified accomplices.

The attackers fired multiple rounds at Yadav, leaving him fatally wounded. He was immediately rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the murder could be linked to an old dispute, although authorities are still probing the exact motive.

Massive protest blocks highway

Following the killing, enraged locals took to the streets in protest. Demonstrators blocked the National Highway, causing a massive traffic jam that extended for nearly 20 kilometers. The protesters demanded swift action against the accused and insisted that senior officials address their concerns.

Although they called for the presence of Superintendent of Police (SP) Sameer Saurabh, District Panchayat CEO Kamlesh Bhargav arrived at the scene instead. He assured the protesters that their demands would be considered, leading to the dispersal of the crowd around 2 am.

Demands of the protesters

The protesters put forth several demands, including:

  • The immediate removal of Civil Line Police Station in-charge Darshan Lal Shukla.
  • Issuance of firearm licenses for local residents for self-defense.
  • The prompt arrest of the accused and his accomplices.
  • The demolition of the accused’s house as a punitive measure.

Police investigation underway

Civil Line Police Station in-charge Darshan Lal Shukla confirmed that multiple shots were fired, resulting in the victim’s death. The police have launched an extensive search operation to track down the accused. Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken against those responsible for the crime.
