It is a proud moment for Himachal Pradesh, especially for the people of Mandi district. Sangharsh Thakur, from Paprahal village in Sadar tehsil, has been commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Indian Army. His commissioning ceremony was held at the prestigious Officers Training Academy (OTA) in Chennai after months of tough physical, mental, and strategic training.
An alumnus of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Mandi, and a graduate of Vallabh Government College (VGC), Mandi, Sangharsh was always known for his calm nature and focused ambition. Teachers and friends recall him as someone who worked steadily towards his dream of wearing the olive green uniform.
He credits his achievement to his parents — Shyam Lal Thakur, retired Section Officer from Sardar Patel University, and Rama Thakur, Pharmacy Officer in the Himachal Pradesh Health & Family Welfare Department. Their values of humility, integrity, and dedication guided his journey.
Sharing his thoughts, Lt Thakur said: “Success is not about avoiding failure, but about having the courage to continue through it. Behind every star on the shoulder lies years of unseen effort, early mornings, mental grit and the sacrifices made by loved ones.”
Dr Chaman, Flying Officer at VGC Mandi, remarked, “This is not just Sangharsh’s personal milestone, but a collective moment of pride for Mandi and Himachal Pradesh. He represents what our youth can achieve with the right support and determination.”
