Former MLA Zeeshan Siddique has named several builders and politicians in his statement to the police, urging them to consider issues related to slum development projects in Bandra during the investigation into the murder of his father, NCP leader Baba Siddique.

On one occasion, a developer reportedly used abusive language against his father, Zeeshan Siddique told the police.

The former MLA also claimed that many developers were in constant contact with his father regarding redevelopment projects.

His statement forms part of the chargesheet filed by the police in connection with the killing of the former state minister on 12 October 2024.

Baba Siddique, aged 66, was shot dead by three assailants outside his son's office in Bandra East, Mumbai.

Zeeshan Siddique stated to the police that he and his father had been consistently fighting for the rights of slum dwellers in Bandra, adding that a false case had been registered against him for objecting to a redevelopment project.

"There were many developers in regular contact with my father. My father had the habit of maintaining a diary about his daily work. I learned that around 5:30 pm to 6:00 pm (on the day of the murder), my father was contacted via WhatsApp by Mohit Kambhoj (a BJP worker). Mohit wanted to meet my father regarding a project in Bandra by Mundra Builders," Zeeshan said in his statement to the police.

The former MLA also mentioned in his statement, "A builder, during a meeting with certain individuals regarding the SRA redevelopment project, used abusive language about my father. I request that all the above-mentioned matters be thoroughly investigated as part of the inquiry into my father's murder."

The police have filed a chargesheet of over 4,500 pages before a special MCOCA court in connection with the case.

It has been filed against 26 arrested accused, while three individuals – Shubham Lonkar, Yasin Akhtar, and Anmol Bishnoi – have been listed as wanted accused.

All the accused have been charged under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) and are currently in judicial custody.
