The family of late legendary Assamese singer-composer Zubeen Garg has filed a complaint with the Assam Crime Investigation Department (CID), seeking a thorough probe into the circumstances of his death in Singapore, where he went to attend a music festival. Garg, a cultural icon of Assam, allegedly died by drowning on September 19.
The complaint, sent via email on Saturday evening, was jointly signed by Garg’s wife Garima Saikia, his sister Palme Borthakur and his uncle Manoj Kumar Borthakur. “We want a thorough probe into the circumstances of his death,” said Manoj, confirming the move.
On Sunday (September 28), a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Assam CID visited Garg’s residence at Kahilipara in Guwahati to record statements of family members. “We have received a complaint from Garg’s family and are examining it. The SIT is already probing the incidents surrounding the singer’s death and this complaint will also be taken up,” said a CID officer.
Earlier on September 25, the SIT and CID teams had raided the residences of Garg’s manager Siddharth Sharma, musician Sekhar Jyoti Goswami and Shyamkanu Mahanta, the chief organiser of the North East India Festival held in Singapore. Several items, including a pen drive, hard disk, computer CPU and key documents, were seized during the raids.
