A Special Investigation Team (SIT) conducted raids at premises linked to Siddharth Sharma on Thursday, the manager of the late Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, in Guwahati’s Datalpara area, according to sources. The searches come days after Garg’s death, as authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
The operation targeted Flat 3A, a three-bedroom unit on the third floor of a three-storey building in Datalpara, where Sharma and his family have resided since 2019. Sources reported that Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officials arrived at the complex in the morning and remained stationed outside for nearly two hours before commencing the raid.
The search was conducted in the presence of a magistrate to ensure procedural compliance. Upon reaching Sharma’s flat, the team found it locked. The lock was subsequently broken in the magistrate’s presence, allowing the SIT to carry out a thorough search of the premises.
Residents of the building noted that Sharma’s brother, sister, and mother, who also lived in the flat, had not been seen since the day Zubeen Garg passed away. As the raid unfolded, angry fans gathered outside Sharma’s residence, expressing their outrage and prompting authorities to deploy additional forces to maintain order and ensure the safety of the operation.
The Assam government constituted a 10-member SIT, led by Special Director General of Police (DGP) MP Gupta, to probe Garg’s death. The formation of the SIT was driven by a combination of public demand, allegations of foul play, and the need to ensure transparency in the investigation. The high-profile nature of the case, coupled with Garg’s immense popularity, has intensified scrutiny and public interest in the probe.
