India generated 14.14 lakh MT e-waste in 2025-26: Govt

India generated over 14.14 lakh metric tonnes of electronic waste in 2025–26 so far, of which about 9.79 lakh metric tonnes has been recycled, the government informed the Lok Sabha.

Central and state government departments, local bodies, public sector undertakings, institutions, commercial establishments and residential societies, which fall under the category of bulk waste generators, must ensure that the waste they generate is collected, transported and processed in an environmentally-sound manner, in accordance with the rules, to significantly reduce the burden on urban local bodies and promote decentralised waste management
