The mummy and the manuscript

The discovery of Homer’s ‘Iliad’ inside a 1,600-year-old Roman-era Egyptian mummy initially suggested that it perhaps reflected their education or cultural identity. The most telling explanation, however, may be that discarded or damaged papyri could be reused as inexpensive material.
