In a big move Delhi government on Monday tabled a bill to regulate private school fee hikes, under which it will impose harsh penalties for arbitrary fee increases. According to the Bill schools will face fines between Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh, with repeat violations attracting penalties ranging from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.

In order to address unchecked private school fee hikes, the Delhi government is preparing to introduce a new bill in the monsoon session which will require schools to seek clearance before increasing fee.
