Assam to issue firearm licences to indigenous people from 2026

Assam will begin issuing firearm licences to indigenous people in vulnerable regions from February 2026, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, as the cabinet also cleared a Bill to prohibit polygamy and announced new measures linked to demographic and economic trends in the state.
