E-commerce giant Amazon announced plans on Monday to inject more than 1.2 billion euros ($1.3 billion) into its French operations.

The investment is set to generate over 3,000 permanent job opportunities across various sectors.

The announcement came as part of France's annual "Choose France" event, where several prominent companies pledged substantial investments in the country.

Alongside Amazon, firms like GSK and Accenture also committed to significant financial injections.

In a statement, Amazon detailed its plans to strengthen its presence in France, with a focus on expanding both its cloud infrastructure and logistics capabilities.

The investment in Amazon Web Services (AWS) aims to enhance cloud infrastructure in the Paris area to cater to the burgeoning demand for generative AI technologies. Additionally, logistics infrastructure in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region will undergo expansion to facilitate efficient delivery operations.

The rise of generative AI technologies, commonly referred to as GenAI, has fueled the demand for cloud services, positioning France as a hub for innovation in artificial intelligence.

Major tech players like Meta and Google have also established AI research centers within French borders, further solidifying the nation's reputation as a leading AI destination.

Since 2010, the company has poured more than 20 billion euros into its French operations, supporting job creation and economic growth.

With over 22,000 permanent employees already on its payroll across cloud and online retail divisions, Amazon's latest recruitment drive is poised to further strengthen its workforce presence in the country.

Frédéric Duval, Country Manager at Amazon France, emphasized the significance of the job creation initiative, highlighting that the new positions would supplement the 2,000 jobs previously announced for 2024.

A portion of the investment will also be allocated towards expanding Amazon's logistics network, aimed at improving delivery speed and reducing carbon emissions.

Currently, the company operates over 35 logistics facilities across France.
