Apple’s next generation of M4-powered Macs is scheduled for release next week, with fans and industry insiders alike awaiting significant performance upgrades across several Mac models.
Greg Joswiak, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing, posted on X: “Mac your calendars! We have an exciting week of announcements ahead, starting on Monday morning.”
The M4 series is expected to feature in both MacBooks and desktops, including a new 14-inch MacBook Pro and a redesigned Mac Mini, which will reportedly sport Apple’s smallest desktop design to date, closely resembling the compact form factor of an Apple TV.
The MacBook Pro lineup will likely include M4 Pro and M4 Max chips, while the new Mac Mini will appear in M4 and M4 Pro versions, offering users a powerful yet space-efficient desktop solution.
The 24-inch iMac, too, is anticipated to debut with the M4 processor.
Rumoured design upgrades will focus on the Mac Mini, as sources indicate that the device may undergo a complete redesign to cater to the demand for a minimalist desktop option. By contrast, other models, such as the MacBook Pro and iMac, are expected to retain their current designs.
Apple’s latest Macs may also offer enhanced memory, with entry-level models potentially shipping with 16GB RAM as standard, up from the previous 8GB configuration.
This increase would provide improved support for Apple’s anticipated Intelligence features, which are expected to launch with the iOS 18.1 update.
Apple Intelligence, speculated to arrive on October 28, aims to introduce AI-powered features and personalisation options, representing Apple’s first major foray into artificial intelligence on a mass scale.
Though the release date remains unconfirmed, sources suggest that its arrival will coincide with the rollout of iOS 18.1.
The new M4 chip is anticipated to deliver heightened processing power, positioning Apple’s laptops and desktops to compete with industry-leading performance standards.
This upgrade comes after the successful launch of the iPad Mini 7 earlier this month and Apple’s M3-powered MacBook Air update in 2023.
Meanwhile, reports suggest Apple is also planning an early 2025 launch for a MacBook Air model featuring the M4 chip, potentially marking the next step in Apple’s phased hardware refresh strategy.
