Elon Musk is set to make a splash in the video streaming arena as he plans to launch a TV app for X, aiming to rival the popularity of YouTube. The move is part of Musk’s broader strategy to transform X, formerly known as Twitter, into a multifaceted platform catering to diverse user needs.
X, acquired by Musk in the year 2022 has undergone significant transformations, shifting from its origins as a micro-blogging platform to a more versatile social media hub. Musk’s vision for X includes features like job postings ad potential future integration for payments within the platform.
According to a report by Fortune, this app is expected to debut as early as this week, with initial availability on Samsung and Amazon Smart TV’s. The anonymous source cited by Fortune disclosed Musk’s objective of enticing X users to engage with longer video content on larger screens.
The report also hinted at Musk’s desire to compete not only with YouTube but also with other platforms such as Twitch, Signal and Reddit.
Last year, discussions surrounding X’s shift towards prioritizing video content gained traction, with Musk himself acknowledging the demand for a Twitter video app for Smart TV’s. Responding to a user’s inquiry on the topic, Musk cryptically confirmed, “It’s coming”.
