Foxconn is reportedly gearing up to start assembling Apple’s iPad in India as part of its ambitious expansion plans at its Tamil Nadu facility in Sriperumbudur.
The move comes after the company has successfully built a robust supply chain for Apple products in the country, primarily focusing on the assembly of smartphones until now.
According to sources familiar with the development, Foxconn is seriously considering the iPad assembly at its Tamil Nadu facility.
Discussions with the Indian government have reportedly been productive, indicating a strong commitment from Foxconn to enhance its operations in the region.
"Their experience so far has been very good, and they are coming full force," a source stated, adding that the company plans to double its output in the coming years, which would encompass not only iPhones and iPads but also other Apple products.
While the assembly of Apple’s Mac laptops may take longer to commence due to smaller production volumes, the integration of iPads into the assembly line is expected to be seamless.
As one industry insider noted, “The iPad is like a bigger iPhone, and Apple’s contract manufacturers are well-equipped to handle such functions.”
