The Apple Watch series has significantly changed the lives of many users since it first came out, thanks to various health-monitoring features and precise sensors.
These devices are recognised for providing sophisticated health-related alerts, and a lot of users view them as tools comparable to those used in medical settings.
Nonetheless, Apple continues to innovate and has recently filed multiple patents, including one for incorporating sensors into the straps of future Apple Watch models.
In November 2024, the US Patent and Trademark Office approved 38 new patents. Among these, patent number 12133743, which was highlighted by Patently Apple, outlines how sensors can be integrated into a stretchable fabric band, capable of measuring various metrics such as blood pressure and heart respiration levels.
Apple currently offers elastic fabric bands as straps with its Apple Watches, and this concept could be integrated into upcoming models of the Apple Watch series in the following years. Furthermore, the patent suggests that the circuitry embedded within the fabric can harness wireless power, potentially allowing the band’s battery to be charged wirelessly with compatible chargers.
In addition, the patent mentions that this technology could be effectively utilised in an elastic fabric headband, similar to the band featured in the Vision Pro headset. However, this idea is not entirely original, as the Huawei Watch D2 can also measure blood pressure directly from its strap.
With these innovative bands, Apple might also incorporate durability against high temperatures, enabling them to endure extreme environmental conditions.
