G20 Summit portal faces 16 lakh cyberattacks per min, reveals government report

The CEO of the Indian Cybercrime coordination center(I4C)reported that the G20 account experienced 16 lakh attacks per minute during the summit, commencing shortly after the website was up

The Indian cybersecurity sector thwarted various cyber threats on the G20 portal during the peak of the global summit hosted by PM Modi in New Delhi on Sept 9 and 10,2023.

 

There were around 16 lakh DDoS attacks per minute culminating at some point, this has emerged as the primary concern in the internet security market. The Indian cybercrime coordination centre(14C) CEO Rajesh Kumar exposed the same during the annual conference. 

 

The Ministry of Home affairs, established the I4C wing, which facilitates a framework and eco-system for the law enforcement agencies, that deals with cybercrime in a coordinated and exhaustive manner. 

 

"16 lakh attacks were noted on the G20 accout during the summit, and it began soon after the website was live and the attacks spurred during the summit", stated by Rajesh Kumar.

 

The National cybercrime reporting portal on an average recieved 50,000 daily complaints on toll-free number 1930 in 2023. 

 

Kumar accentuated, "Nearly 40-50% of the 5,000 daily complaints on the portal stem from countries like Myanmar, Cambodia and China"

Additionally, the cybercrime coordination centre has evidence of foreign gangs appealing Indians online by providing offers and trapping them in frauds. 

 

 "We have blocked 2810 websites, 595 mobile apps and 46,229 IMEI numbers, over 263 banks, e-commerce companies and others have been integrated and all states and UTs have been taken on board to control cybercrime", especially financial fraud", Kumar further stated.
