IIT Bombay Techfest 2023, Asia’s largest science & tech fest takes off today

The festival promises a blend of technological exhibitions, lecture series, energy literacy training initiatives and a special focus on the future of India's defense capabilities.

In the heart of Mumbai, the Techfest, a three day annual science and technology festival of IIT Bombay has geared up for its commencement, with a confluence of innovation, education and defense advancements. 

 

The event beginning from 27 Dec, 2023 hosts an education fair featuring international universities for the first time. The festival promises a blend of technological exhibitions, lecture series, energy literacy training initiatives and a special focus on the future of India's defense capabilities. 

 

It is supported by UNESCO, UNICEF, Make in India and Digital India, making it a significant platform for learning about new technologies while boasting an impressive track record. The event captures a digital footprint extending to over 5 million, attendance of over 175,000 and a social media outreach of 3 million.

 

At the forefront of this spectacle are three luminaries- General Manoj Makund Narvane, former Chief of Army staff, Air Chief Marshal Rakesh Kumar Singh Bhadauria, former Chief of Air staff and Admiral Karambir Singh, former Chief of Naval staff.

 

Moreover, the event has taken up the Energy training literacy initiative, spearheaded by Energy Swaraj Foundation, founded by Chetan Solanki, also known as the “Solar Man of India '' or “Solar Gandhi''. He shared his vision, stating, “We want to enable informed decisions for a more sustained future”, stressing how this move will aim to raise awareness about the environmental impact of energy consumption. 

 

“Participants at Techfest will not only be encouraged to adopt the Energy literacy training initiative but they will be given a certificate upon completion of the 12-module course” Solanki highlighted the significance of this partnership. He also stated that “Techfest IIT Bombay is the first academic institution partner organization in Maharashtra"

 

To further facilitate the move, the Energy swaraj foundation has launched a portal as well. This platform shall connect with various partner organizations, actively encouraging individuals to enroll in the course. 

 

This year, the Techfest will host spectacular events showcasing international robowars and drone racing competitions as well.

 

Shriya Kajrolkar, the media and marketing head of this year’s fest said, “There are 30 pilots in the international drone racing league with one international pilot Rousseau Killian from France who has been world champion twice. Robowars will see four international teams this year- Nepal, Russia, South Korea and Brazil. Though, last year there were only two international teams”

 

Additionally, the fest has an impressive list of speakers for it’s lecture series such as S Somnath, Chairman of ISRO, Harshbir Singh, from the UK Space agency, Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio among others.

 

In essence, the Techfest stands as a showcase of India's profound prowess in technology, education, sustainability and national security. The event, also  fosters a spirit of curiosity coupled with India's commtiment to excellence on global stage.
