Meta announced that it removed over 11.6 million pieces of content from Facebook and more than 5.4 million pieces from Instagram in India during April.

This action covered violations of 13 policies on Facebook and 12 on Instagram, according to Meta's monthly report in compliance with the IT (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.

In April, Facebook received 17,124 reports through the Indian grievance mechanism, resolving issues in 9,977 cases through pre-established channels. These channels allow users to report specific violations, download their data, and address account hacking issues.

Of the 7,147 reports requiring specialised review, 4,303 complaints resulted in action based on Meta's policies. The remaining 2,844 grievances were reviewed but did not necessarily lead to any action.

Instagram received 12,924 reports through the same mechanism. Tools provided by Meta resolved 5,941 of these issues. For the remaining 6,983 reports needing specialised review, 3,206 complaints were acted upon, while 3,777 were reviewed but may not have resulted in any action.

The IT Rules 2021 mandate that major digital and social media platforms with more than 5 million users publish monthly compliance reports.

“We measure the number of pieces of content we take action on for violating our standards. Actions could include removing content from Facebook or Instagram or covering photos or videos that may be disturbing to some audiences with a warning,” Meta stated.
