Meta’s Facebook and Instagram experience widespread downtime, users struggle to access accounts
On Tuesday night, around 9 pm, Meta-owned platforms Facebook and Instagram encountered a significant downtime. According to the Down Detector, a real-time outage tracking website, Facebook experienced the outage starting at approximately 8:57 pm, with a staggering 15,381 reports recorded.
Users found themselves abruptly logged out of their Facebook and Instagram accounts during the downtime, with many facing the challenge of being unable to log back in. The disruptions affected both the app and the website.
As of now, the cause of the outage remains undisclosed. Numerous users in the US reported difficulties in resetting passwords and utilizing two-factor security logins.
The DownDetector showcased Facebook's status during the outage.
The outage appears to have broader implications, impacting various businesses and publishers reliant on Facebook for marketing and outreach activities. Users, seeking information about the outage, migrated to alternative platforms, resulting in #FacebookDown trending on X platform.
The downtime extended to Messenger, where numerous users also reported being logged out. Meta has yet to provide an official response to the issue.
