Ola's AI platform Krutrim has achieved unicorn status in India's generative AI sector, even before its public launch. With a pre-launch valuation of $50 million, Krutrim has captured attention for its innovative approach towards artificial intelligence, promising lower hallucination rates tailored specifically for Indian contexts.

Founder Bhavish Aggarwal's vision for Krutrim emphasizes the importance of creating AI solutions that are sensitive to the nuances of the Indian socio-political landscape. However, recent controversies surrounding Google's Gemini platform have cast a spotlight on the challenges inherent in AI-generated responses, particularly in navigating politically sensitive topics.

Krutrim's self-assessment of its political neutrality, scored itself a 7 out of 10, and its evaluation of religious polarization in India, ranking it between 6 to 7 on a scale of 1 to 10.

It said, "India is a diverse and complex society and religious polarisation is not uniform across all regions and social groups, it added that religious polarisation in India can be attributed to "a combination of factors, including the rise of Hindu nationalism, political rhetroic, and the influence of certain religious figures".

Notably, Krutrim has linked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to what it identifies as the rise of Hindu nationalism in India, a stance that could potentially invite scrutiny in the politically charged environment of the country.

The platform's launch comes amidst criticism directed at Google's AI models, following allegations of biased responses regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has emphasized the importance of ensuring that AI models are trained without racial or other biases, indicating a growing awareness within the government regarding the ethical implications of AI technology.

Minister of State for Information Technology, Rajeev Chandrashekhar, has condemned Google's AI response as a violation of IT rules, highlighting the regulatory challenges facing AI platforms operating in India's dynamic digital landscape.
