WhatsApp has introduced several updates to its calling features, enhancing the experience across both desktop and mobile devices. These updates include:
- Screen Sharing with Audio: Users can now share their screen along with audio, allowing for co-viewing experiences during calls.
- Increased Participant Capacity: Video calls on WhatsApp can now support up to 32 participants, making it ideal for larger meetings and gatherings.
- Speaker Spotlight Feature: The active speaker is automatically highlighted and prominently displayed on the screen, making it easier to follow conversations.
WhatsApp is enhancing its audio and video quality with the newly introduced MLow codec. This codec improves call reliability by delivering clearer audio and superior noise and echo cancellation.
This is particularly advantageous for mobile device users, ensuring crisper calls even in noisy environments or with poor network connectivity. Video calls will now feature higher resolution for users with faster connections.
"We will continue to improve WhatsApp calling to provide high-quality, private calls wherever you are in the world," the company stated.
Last week, WhatsApp announced new business features at its annual conference in Brazil.
These updates are designed to help businesses connect more effectively with customers and streamline their operations. New AI tools will enable businesses to respond promptly to common queries and create ads for Facebook and Instagram.
The Meta Verified badge will offer enhanced account support and protection against impersonation. A one-tap calling feature for larger businesses will facilitate more efficient handling of complex customer requests.
