iOS 18: Customization and Security Enhancements

The highlight of the event was the introduction of iOS 18, designed for the iPhone. The new operating system will allow users to customize and secure their applications, including a feature that lets people lock individual apps.

Email and text messaging will also see enhancements, such as new effects and the ability to use satellite connections for sending messages. Additionally, users can now sort their emails by categories, enhancing organization and efficiency.

VisionOS2

The upgraded visionOS 2 introduces productivity enhancements and immersive experiences. One feature allows you to "spatialize" regular photos, using AI and machine learning to turn them into interactive experiences.

Another feature offers new navigation options: tap to switch to the home screen or flip your hand to access the control center with notifications and shortcuts.

WatchOS

Apple has just unveiled its brand-new Apple Watch software for 2024, watchOS 11. The new software will be available later this year for all top Apple Watch models, including the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2.

watchOS 11 introduces new algorithmic training metrics designed to help users manage their training load and avoid injuries. Additionally, users will be able to adjust their Activity rings based on the day of the week and modify their targets if they are injured or otherwise

iPadOS

The iPadOS 18 is set to enhance all top iPads, leveraging Apple Intelligence to allow you to do more on your tablet.

iPadOS 18 will improve even the latest models like the M4 iPad Pro and iPad Air 6. iPadOS 18 brings many of the new features from iOS 18, including more customizable Home Screen options, updates to the Control Center, and a revamped Photos app.

Apple joins the AI race with Apple Intelligence

Apple is officially a part of the AI race. At WWDC 2024, the tech giant revealed Apple Intelligence, its new AI initiative.

Apple Intelligence promises to understand complex commands, such as showing images of a particular person from a specific day.

Addressing privacy concerns, Apple emphasized its commitment to user privacy. One key feature, Private Cloud Compute, ensures that the iPhone will not spy on users, maintaining the company's long-standing focus on privacy.

New Mac Software: Sequoia

The new Mac operating system, named Sequoia, will simplify the process of mirroring iPhone content on Mac computers, further integrating Apple’s ecosystem.

Vision Pro and International Expansion

Earlier in the presentation, Apple introduced visionOS 2, the latest software for the Vision Pro headset. The updated OS allows users to convert regular photos into 3D images and includes new gesture controls.

Apple announced plans to launch the Vision Pro internationally, with preorders starting in China, Hong Kong, Japan, and Singapore on June 13. Sales in these regions will begin on June 28. The rollout will continue in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, and the UK, with preorders beginning June 28 and sales starting July 12.

Apple CEO Tim Cook faces mounting pressure to demonstrate that the company can once again lead in the technology sector.

Apple initially had an advantage in AI with the launch of Siri in 2011, but competitors like Amazon’s Alexa and Google Assistant quickly surpassed it. The arrival of OpenAI’s ChatGPT in late 2022 marked another significant advancement in AI, prompting a wave of new services from Google, Microsoft, and Meta Platforms.

This year, Samsung also integrated Google AI features into its devices.
