The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly criticised Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Lalu Prasad Yadav over Halloween celebrations at his residence, highlighting his previous condemnation of the Kumbh festival. The BJP shared a news clip featuring Yadav describing the Kumbh as "meaningless," and asserted that individuals who attack religious faith will not secure votes. With Bihar assembly elections just days away, this issue has gained significant political traction.
The BJP's response was triggered by a social media post on Friday from Yadav's daughter, Rohini Acharya, who shared images and videos of her children dressed in Halloween costumes. In the visuals, Lalu Yadav was seen posing affectionately with his grandchildren, one of whom was attired as a Grim Reaper, while others wore various spooky outfits. "Happy Halloween to everyone," Acharya captioned her post.
The BJP Kisan Morcha's official handle posted a split-screen video juxtaposing Yadav's critical remarks on the Kumbh festival with the Halloween celebration footage at his home. The party pointed out that the RJD supremo appears to have no objections to observing a festival of British origin.
Halloween has its origins in ancient Celtic traditions and is marked by eerie decorations, themed parties, costume-wearing, and the custom of trick-or-treating."Don't forget, people of Bihar, this is the same Lalu Yadav who called the grand Kumbh of faith and spirituality useless and is celebrating the British festival Halloween. Whoever attacks faith, the people of Bihar will not vote for him," stated the BJP Kisan Morcha in its post.

The Bihar assembly elections 2025 will be conducted in two phases, with voting scheduled for November 6 and November 11. Lalu Yadav On Kumbh In February, Lalu Yadav had labelled the Maha Kumbh festival as "meaningless," which ignited a major political uproar. Responding to a query about the enormous gatherings at the grand event in Prayagraj earlier this year, he remarked, "Kumbh ka koi matlab hai? Faltu hai Kumbh (Does Kumbh have any meaning? It's useless)."
Condemning the RJD leader at the time, the BJP stated that such comments reveal his party's attitude toward Hindus. Bihar BJP spokesperson Manoj Sharma had declared that the RJD has consistently insulted the sentiments of Hindus.
