BJP MP Sambit Patra has sharply criticised former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal for his handling of the city’s water supply, accusing him of profiting from mafia-controlled water distribution networks.
Addressing residents in Bijwasan, Patra questioned the adequacy and quality of water provided to Delhiites, claiming that Kejriwal’s promises of free water were mere rhetoric.
"Aren’t residents of this area our citizens? Do they not have the right to clean drinking water?" Patra asked, drawing attention to the ongoing struggles of Delhi’s residents who, according to him, are compelled to buy water from criminal networks.
“Why are they forced to buy water from mafias?” he demanded, suggesting that Kejriwal was reaping profits at the expense of clean water access for citizens.

Patra alleged that Kejriwal was making crores of rupees through these illegal water distribution systems.
“Arvind Kejriwal is earning crores by supplying water in this way,” Patra charged.
He pointed to the installation of private meters in the area as evidence of illegal practices, claiming that such measures were a sign of corruption.
He also compared the situation in Delhi to the canals of Venice, saying, "The only difference between Venice and Kapashera is that water in Venice flows under us, while here it flows above our heads," in reference to the ongoing water crisis.
Further questioning Kejriwal’s claims of providing free water, Patra stated, “People say the water is paid while Arvind Kejriwal boasts of supplying free water...” He asserted that the issue was tied to a network of mafias profiting from the crisis.
“This trap is spread by the mafia friends of Arvind Kejriwal, from whom Arvind Kejriwal earns crores of rupees daily,” Patra alleged.
Patra also expressed concern over the overall quality of water, stating, "Never have I seen anything like this... In such a huge area, people have no access to drinking water."
He cited a study indicating that all Vidhan Sabhas in Delhi are being supplied with contaminated water.
Patra went on to question Kejriwal’s accountability for the water situation.
"According to a study, every Vidhan Sabha of Delhi is being supplied with dirty water... Now who will he blame for this? Haryana, Punjab, or J&K?" he asked, accusing Kejriwal of failing to take responsibility. "AAP-da and Arvind Kejriwal are responsible for this," he concluded.
The remarks come as the Delhi Assembly elections near their final day of campaigning. Polls are set for Wednesday, with results to be announced on February 8.
