A significant voter turnout of 69.89 percent was recorded till 5 PM on Saturday in nine Lok Sabha constituencies in West Bengal, according to an Election Commission official. Polling, which began at 7 AM, is scheduled to continue until 6 PM.
Basirhat recorded the highest turnout at 76.56 percent, followed by Mathurapur at 74.13 percent, Jaynagar at 73.44 percent, Diamond Harbour at 72.87 percent, Barasat at 71.80 percent, Jadavpur at 70.41 percent, Dum Dum at 67.60 percent, Kolkata Dakshin at 60.88 percent, and Kolkata Uttar at 59.23 percent.
In the Baranagar bypoll, voter turnout was 66.70 percent till 5 PM.
By 4 PM, the Election Commission had received 2,667 complaints, an official reported.
A total of 1,63,40,345 voters are eligible to cast their votes across 17,470 polling stations.
To ensure smooth conduct of the final phase, the EC deployed 967 companies of central forces, supplemented by over 33,000 state police personnel.
