The Centre has issued more than 12.5 lakh recruitment letters through Rozgar Melas since the launch of the initiative, while also expanding skill development programmes and employment opportunities across sectors, particularly for women, the government informed Parliament.

The government said the initiative is part of its broader strategy to promote employment generation, strengthen workforce skills, and encourage inclusive economic growth. It added that several programmes are being implemented to improve access to jobs, enhance employability, and support women’s participation in the workforce.

In a written reply in Parliament, Minister of State for Labour and Employment Shobha Karandlaje said the government has undertaken multiple employment generation schemes aimed at creating new opportunities for job seekers across the country.

Highlighting the role of Rozgar Melas, Karandlaje said the initiative has emerged as an important platform for connecting candidates with employment opportunities in government departments and organisations.

"The Rozgar Mela is a major initiative aimed at prioritising employment generation. Since its inception, more than 12.5 lakh recruitment letters have been issued through 19 Rozgar Melas organised across the country," she said.

The Rozgar Melas are being organised in different parts of the country to provide appointment letters to selected candidates while allowing them to directly interact with government representatives and understand their roles and responsibilities.

The minister also highlighted the role of skill development initiatives in preparing India's workforce for emerging employment opportunities. She said the government is implementing the Skill India Mission (SIM), which focuses on providing skill development, reskilling, and upskilling training through a wide network of skill development centres, educational institutions, and training facilities.

Under the Skill India Mission, various schemes are being implemented, including the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS), National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS), and the Craftsmen Training Scheme (CTS) conducted through Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across the country.

The minister said these initiatives are aimed at improving employability, bridging the skill gap, and ensuring that young people are equipped with industry-relevant capabilities.

The government has also established the National Career Service (NCS) Portal under the Ministry of Labour and Employment as a one-stop platform for career-related services. The portal provides facilities related to job searches, career counselling, skill development opportunities, and employment-related information for job seekers and employers.

In addition, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has launched the FutureSkills PRIME programme to enhance digital skills among IT professionals and job seekers. The programme focuses on advanced technology areas and aims to improve the readiness of India's workforce for the evolving digital economy. The government also underlined its efforts towards increasing women's participation in the workforce and promoting gender-inclusive growth.

In a separate response, Union Minister of Labour and Employment Mansukh Mandaviya highlighted provisions under the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020, which allow women to work in all establishments and undertake all categories of work, subject to prescribed safety measures.

"Women may also be employed, with their consent, before 6:00 a.m. and beyond 7:00 p.m., subject to prescribed conditions relating to safety, working hours, holidays and other safeguards," Mandaviya said.

He said India is witnessing a transition from women's development to women-led development, reflecting the government's vision of enabling women to play a leading role in the country's economic and social progress.

Mandaviya also pointed out that the government has introduced enabling provisions under the Companies Act, 2013, making it mandatory for certain companies to have at least one woman director on their boards.

The government said these measures are aimed at creating a more inclusive employment ecosystem by combining job creation, skill enhancement, workplace reforms, and greater participation of women in economic activities.

Through initiatives such as Rozgar Melas, Skill India Mission, digital skill programmes, and employment-focused reforms, the Centre said it is working towards building a skilled workforce and supporting sustainable employment opportunities across the country.
